- Salutations Jason for on the 14 Jan 96, verilly did you scribe;
-
- JC> No matter how this news gets sliced, it's bad news when you lay off what

-
- Indeed though it could be argued that Mr Anderson was an unwise appointment
- in any event. However the other two members of staff are definately a loss.
-
- <rant on>
-
- Remember Jonathan Anderson was quoted to say (to us); "... I would strongly
- urge your readers to call or write to the following companies; Acclaim, US
- Gold; Virgin; Gametek; Mindscape; Team 17 and Ocean. Ask what new titles
- they have planned for 1996 and if non THE DON'T BUY ANY OF THEIR SOFTWARE."
-
- Yeah right Jonny.
-
- How about this; "Hard drives are old hat now. If users want hard drives they
- can buy them but we'll be fitting CD-ROMs as standard."
-
- <sigh>
-
- One of the biggest problems facing sales in the UK is that there was
- absolutely no provision to educate the Escom store sales staff on what the
- Amiga was. Since non of them even knew how to plug in an Amiga (really) the
- Magic Pack boxes sat in the corner.
-
- Amiga Technologies, in my view, should do/have done the following for the UK
- market (this means that Anderson should have done/arranged this);
-
- Hire an Amiga enthusiast to travel to each and every single Escom store in
- the UK.
-
- This enthusiast can create a boot disk with a modern Workbench set-up.
-
- The enthusiast can physically set up an Amiga 1200 in every store and
- provide a boot disk for each machine.
-
- This enthusiast could then tell the sales staff about the machine, what kind
- of user it is suited to and any other background information.
-
- Such an individual could be purchased for a meagre fraction of the salery of
- the largely useless UK management and yet generate REAL SALES.
-
- Before this news you wouldn't believe the difficulty we had in simply
- obtaining a set of Virtual IO glasses. Finally, we managed to extract a
- massive *7* day loan out of them. My God, what kind of attitude was this?
- After this period, JA called the office and said; "I'm most disappointed in
- that Mat Bettinson, he said he'd have it back to me in seven days but...".
- Jeezus, they just got the one set or something?! This was day 8 or 9.
-
- The UK team didn't even possess the initiative to PURCHASE some second hand
- Amigas when no new units were available. Companies demonstrating software
- for submission to the Magic Pack had to take their OWN AMIGAS to the
- Maidenhead headquarters. Yes that's right.
-
- AT UK also admitted that they didn't test ONE item of software contained in
- the Amiga Magic Pack. Hence the Scala fiasco. Nice one fellas.
-
- Why on earth it should take someone like me to tell Amiga Technologies this
- is totally beyond me. Since they've been in the business of selling machines
- (Escom), I would have though this much would be obvious to them. :-/
-
- The UK is an absolutely massive Amiga market (1st or 2nd largest is in
- dispute) and yet it's treated with near absolute disregard by the German
- mangement including the lack of supervision to the largely incompetant UK
- staff and poor appointments initially in any event.
-
- Did AT enquire as to what AT UK were doing to sell Amigas in the UK?
-
- They have ONLY THEMSELVES TO BLAME for the poor Christmas sales.
